Crypts and holy bones tour

Crypts and holy bones tour

Crypts and sacred bones is a tour on the trail of the early Christian martyrs and popes. It starts with the Capuchin crypt in via Veneto, a seventeenth century cemetery of the Capuchin Friars. The crypt is unique and one of a kind. In fact all decorations are made with human bones!

Next stop are the catacombs of Priscilla. These catacombs were created on the property of the wealthy Roman matron Priscilla, who donated the land to Christians. The catacombs of Priscilla are the largest one in Rome.

Last but not least is the Basilica of S. Clemente. Built in the ruins of the house of the pope Clement who died as martyr in the II century AD. Immediately after construction the basilica became one of the most important shrines of the city, visited by thousands of pilgrims and it hasn’t changed till today.
